Just over 156 million cubic meters of water are accumulated in the 23 reservoirs managed by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources in the province of Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- That figure represents 44 percent of the total filling capacity; as a whole, these reservoirs can store 350 million 915 thousand cubic meters of the liquid. According to the most recent report, the smallest reserve is in the municipality of Jobabo, with only 10 percent.

Below the provincial average are also “Colombia” (43), Puerto Padre (40), and “Jesús Menéndez” (31). In better conditions are "Amancio" and Manatí, which exceed 70 percent of their respective capacities.

In the specific case of this city, there is a guarantee of the liquid for the planned supply, because the El Rincón dam has 270 days of coverage and Cayojo, 348. In addition, the stable extraction of the La Cana underground basin is maintained.

Although the population of Tunisia is called upon to save water throughout the year, it is now necessary to increase measures for the rational use of this vital resource, which is decisive for most economic processes and guarantees people's lives, especially when the country faces the epidemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

In Las Tunas there are more than 50 rain gauges, and during the first days of the current month, none has registered the occurrence of rainfall, which should happen in the next days with the beginning of the rainy period.

Historically, for these dates, the Institute of Meteorology, through its stations, reports high moisture content in low and medium levels of the atmosphere, in addition to the confluence of other factors that promote the long-awaited downpours.
