United Nations.- Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, supported the lifting of that unilateral mechanism so that Cuba can exercise its freedom to participate in an equitable and fair manner in the economic and commercial relations, in accordance with international law.
According to Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Enele Sosene Sopoaga, the long unilateral economic blockade against Cuba directly limits the development aspiration of that island's people.
Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, stated that his country "is firmly opposed to the constant interventionist attacks against the sovereignty of our neighbors, the Republic of Cuba and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela." The anachronistic economic blockade against Cuba is illegal and unproductive and we deeply regret that the incipient rapprochement between the United States and Cuba has been at a standstill, he said.
Jamaica's Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, also rejected the blockades and other economic barriers that limit the development and rights of citizens, as in the case of Cuba.
Once again, we join the international community with a call to lift the blockade against Cuba, which for too many years has damaged the population's capacity to generate development and prosperity, Costa Rica's Vice President Epsy Campbell said during her speech at the General Assembly.
At present, the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, considered the longest one in history, is widely rejected by the international community, as evidenced the votes held each year at the UN General Assembly. (PL)
