Intense rainfall in Las Tunas city

The constant rainfall these days, although have been a relief for the dams, agriculture, and the greenery of our spaces, also expose debts accumulated for years and damage to homes and infrastructure, mainly in the low-lying areas of the territory, or in the inviolable bed of rivers and streams when they become strong.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Of course, the measures taken in the municipal defense councils and communities are focused on these issues; in addition, it is encouraging that the recently held Meteoro Exercise helped to unclog drains and clean spaces.

However, the discipline with which the people act in these circumstances cannot be seen as a mere slogan or excess of the authorities; human life is the most valuable thing and the flooding of streams, crossing a street that we know well but is covered with water, or exposing ourselves near a fallen power line is much more dangerous now than some suppose.

Juana Yamilka Viñals Suárez, the vice president of the Las Tunas Municipal Defense Council, recently highlighted these elements on local radio. She assured that in the tours they carry out through the communities they have witnessed indiscipline that can endanger the lives of many people.

She said that hydro-meteorological surveillance is maintained in dams and reservoirs, measures are adopted to reinforce the walls of the La Canoa micro-dam, whose runoff flows into the Hórmigo River, with an increasing flow, partly for that reason; and she confirmed that nothing will be enough if rigor does not reach the conscience and responsibility of the people.

The call of the authorities is, therefore, to remain alert. It is imperative to be disciplined and accept these rainy days trying to maintain as little mobility as possible and, if necessary, pay extreme attention to water channels, passing through low areas, and excessive exposure to these constant and dangerous June downpours.
