The Central American Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba on Saturday condemned the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island.

Havana, Cuba.- The brigade members expressed that stance against Washington's hostile policy on Cuba at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in Artemisa province.

The brigade is made up of 22 representatives of social and union organizations from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Peru.

Participants agreed that the blockade is the main obstacle to Cuba's economic and social development.

They also demanded that the White House return the territory illegally occupied by the US naval base in Guantánamo.

The social organizations lauded the Cuban people's effort, unity and participation in the process to reform the Constitution.

"We are certain that this will is going to be unanimous when voting Yes on February 24, thus acknowledging that the Constitution is based on socialist principles of social justice, sovereignty and democracy," they said.

They condemned the campaign orchestrated from abroad against the constitutional process, which is based on work, ethics, freedom, wellbeing, and individual and collective prosperity.

The brigade members also denounced the unjust sentence handed over to former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and demanded his immediate release from prison.

The Central American Brigade of Solidarity promotes unity, integration and respect among Latin American and Caribbean peoples to work for development and the continuity of principles. (PL)
