Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that the capital of the island will recover with the collective effort of the severe damages caused by a tornado in several municipalities on Sunday.

 

Havana, Cuba.- "Together, we are going to raise again what the wind destroyed," the president said in his social network Twitter account, which highlighted the mobilization of the traditional torch march to remember the National Hero José Martí on his birthday. .

"Havana, still shaken by the destruction of a terrible tornado, closed the 166-year José Martí Day with an impressive march," he added.

On Sunday night, the high-speed angular air mass caused loss of human life and numerous affectations in the municipalities Regla, Guanabacoa, Diez de Octubre and San Miguel del Padrón.

Díaz-Canel visited the affected areas and said that as usual in Cuba after the passage of weather events; no one will be left behind.

The head of state attended the day before the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Raúl Castro, and other leaders to the march of the torches, in which thousands of people, mostly young, paid tribute to José Martí.

The mobilization was convened this time, in addition to remembering the National Hero, to reiterate popular support for the new Constitution of the Republic, which must be ratified by the Cubans in the referendum on February 24, and the Venezuelan revolution and its leader, Nicolás Maduro, at a time when an attempted coup promoted by the United States against the South American country is underway.
