The Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) made public an statement on its position regarding the doctors that stayed in Brazil after the Cuban government stopped its participation in the More Doctors Program. (ACN)

FULL STATEMENT BY MINSAP

As our people know, on November 14, 2018 the Ministry of Public Health announced that our health collaborators in Brazil would not continue to participate in the More Doctors Program, for the reasons duly explained.

It has recently become known that this Program was definitively cancelled and the job offers have not been fulfilled to the Cuban doctors who chose not to return to Cuba at the end of their mission, as well as to some others who formed families with Brazilian citizens and who did honorably fulfill their commitment to Cuban public health and to the Brazilian people, even when they were already residents of that country.

As it was to be expected, the historical adversaries of the Revolution and the enemies of its public health system have taken advantage of this situation and are lobbying within the United States to resurrect the old brain drain programs that, like the Parole for Cuban health professionals, had received so much international repudiation that they were cancelled.

By virtue of the foregoing and placing above all human dignity, rights and safety of our doctors, including those who decided not to return at the conclusion of their mission, the Ministry of Public Health ratifies that, as it has done for those who have been in other countries, it is willing to receive them in the homeland and offer them employment in the Cuban national health system. Our Embassy and consulates in Brazil are ready to support their return, providing them with the required documentation and assisting them in whatever is within their reach.

In fulfilling the word pledged in the Declaration of November 14, 2018, we reaffirm our loyalty to the teachings of our Revolution and of our Commander in Chief, who educated us never to leave anyone abandoned along the way.
