Cuba is celebrating the 58th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón - also known as the Bay of Pigs - when the people mobilized in defense of the Revolution and defeated a mercenary brigade at the service of the United States.

58th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón

Havana, Cuba.- That triumph was achieved in less than 72 hours, and was led by the historic leader of the Revolutin, Fidel Castro. Playa Girón was the first military defeat of U.S. imperialism in Latin America.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, referring to the event, expressed on his Twitter account that the 58th anniversary of the victory of Playa Girón continues to motivate and inspire us, adding that Cuba is fighting another Playa Girón in these days with courage and dignity.

The Cuban president recalled the words of Fidel Castro when he said: "From April 17 when Girón was invaded, our people fought with weapons in hand and with the price of blood, for socialism." The current anniversary is taking place in the midst of the escalation of aggression of the current Government of the White House, which seeks to destroy the Cuban Revolution.

In remembering on Friday the 58th anniversary of the victory in Bay of Pigs, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez assured that just as in 1961, Cuba will defend its Revolution, with the certainty of victory.

"In the face of new aggression from the United States Government, the people of Cuba -firm, heroic, honorable- will defend their Revolution with the certainty that just like 58 years ago in Bay of Pigs, imperialism will be defeated and victory will be ours," he wrote in Twitter.

Last Wednesday, the administration of Donald Trump reinforced the blockade imposed for almost 60 years on the island, with the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, which includes sanctions designed to force economic suffocation as an instrument to topple the Cuban Government.

The White House also announced it will increase restrictions on travel by Americans to Cuba and limit the amount of remittances Cubans living in the United States are able to send their relatives.

The Government of Cuba repudiated such aggressiveness and called on the international community to curb the US government's imperial ambitions.
