Homage at Fidel Castro's grave

Thousands of people from Santiago de Cuba today repeated the pilgrimage that accompanied the burial of the Historical Leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, along Patria Avenue, in this city, as they did seven years ago.

Santiago de Cuba.- It is estimated that over 100 000 people from Santiago de Cuba, representing the Cuban people, made a pilgrimage from the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square to the Santa Ifigenia patrimonial cemetery as a tribute to the Commander in Chief.

All sectors of society joined the tribute headed by the Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and First Secretary in this province José Ramón Monteagudo Ruíz; the people were accompanied by Dr. Fidel Castro Smirnov, grandson of the leader.

In front of the monolith that treasures his ashes, a wreath was placed on behalf of the People of Cuba, followed by the parade of the participants in the pilgrimage who placed flowers in front of the simple monument that symbolizes a grain of corn, where, according to the Apostle of the independence of Cuba, all the glory of the world can be found.

The popular pilgrimage to Fidel’s tomb, every December 4th, was assumed by the people of Santiago, as a tradition to pay sincere homage to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution. (PL)
