José Martí monument, in Havana

Nothing and nobody forces me to write these lyrics; only the moral commitment to the Apostle and you, brothers in the cause. We must put an end to the real and daily ills that hurt and make our country cry with sorrow in a conscious and mature act; to build that true country that he longed for and for which on a solemn date, a day like today, but in 1895, Pepe was immortalized in history.

For all Cubans, both those who live on the Island and those who reside in other lands, the phrase must be a premise: "I want the first law of our Republic to be the cult of Cubans to the full dignity of man."

Some beings never die and are perpetuated in the broad bosom of grateful peoples. Its material and tangible existence may be extinguished, but in the roots of the native heart, there will be that perennial presence to nourish with its exquisite thoughts, which in these present times are like an oasis in the Sahara desert, the best disciples of Humanity. Then they become the luminous lamp of moonless nights and the guiding staff of the blind oppressed by the most corrupt and clumsy systems created by human ambition. One of those indelible men is José Martí.

In a day of tragic and deep pain, my pen cannot stay still, the chest quickens and unstoppable time is consumed slower in nostalgia for a better tomorrow.

Revolutionary means being a man or a woman who does not hide to say what he thinks, with precise arguments and knowledge. It means a person in action and concrete and credible movements. His only commitment must be with Humanity. It means fighting, if necessary to the death or until the ultimate victory is achieved. And always be in favor of honesty, of what is essentially human, of shame, of the ability to develop new ideas and bring them to an end. Martí did it. "To govern is to prevent."

We do not have to think in the same way and have the same objectives, it is enough to feel Cuban. Just feel the sweet and Caribbean flavor in your mouth. Diversity in all its amplitudes encourages collective development and generates forms of human thought. Break the barriers and boundaries of what until then was believed to be absolute. It equips peoples with useful tools to transfer culture, customs, economics, politics, and good ideas to a higher scale of human development.

The course and future of Cuba are up to us, the youth, to build it, with our feet firmly grounded and our minds very clear. Nor foreign aid, coming from the pockets of the gentlemen who want to see us submissive, which will later lead to eternal debt. Not the desperate and senseless behaviors of those who only seek their individual well-being, and not that of the nation. When the truth is incomplete it runs the risk of being bartered, tarnished, and turned into a true lie that favors the lacerating aspirations of the unscrupulous and cynical.

Let's change everything that is not viable and fruitful for our terroir. The materials and elements of our work must be our own and genuine, not imported. Let us do what is necessary as "the greatest of all Cubans," who in his time knew how to offer his life for the Homeland. If you really want to live, let it be with decorum and pride for the land you walk on. “The Homeland needs sacrifices. It is an altar and not a pedestal. It is to be served, but not to make use of it”
