Health authorities reported on Thursday the discharge of the 48-year-old patient, resident in the municipality of Majibacoa, who tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in the country from Spain.

This citizen arrived in the nation on March 24, the date on which the measure of immediately isolating travelers from abroad was implemented. This enabled its rapid detection and a minimum number of contacts in this locality, bearing in mind that he was never in his community.

From now on, he will remain isolated at home under control by the personnel of his health area. After the established period (14 days), the real-time PCR will be performed once more with the purpose of giving the epidemiological discharge.

In this part of Cuban geography it also transcends the culmination of the surveillance time of the last inhabitants who had arrived from other nations.
Now in the center set up for that purpose are 16 people from other provinces such as Havana, Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey.

In this regard, Dr. Jesús Manuel León Silva, head of the Health command post for the confrontation of COVID-19, specified that these people are detected at checkpoints and in the primary care system.

He said that depending on the area of the country from which they come and the presence or absence of symptoms, an assessment is made to determine if they constitute a source of epidemiological risk, and act accordingly. He also called on the population to contribute to the timely identification of these cases.

A total of 411, 640 people were investigated and of them, 197 presented respiratory symptoms. All were treated in their health area, and one was referred for admission to a hospital center.
