Is she gone? I wonder. Can our Giselle leave? Her perpetual and indomitable gestures are tattooed in the memory of many, a space she gained not only by being one of the greatest dancers of all times, but by worrying about creating a school, a dance tradition in Cuba.

She endorsed the words of Isadora Duncan when she said that the dancer should "perch on the ground with the naturalness of a ray of light," as Dulce María Loynaz, another unforgettable writer, recognized her.
Do as you slowly leave
your life at once;
and with eternal son and rhythm
an eternal ballet you will dance.
(Gabriela Mistral)
Is she gone? I ask again. Do the transcendent persons die? I see her there, in the Auditorium Theater of Havana, immortalized in the photo of Joaquín Blez, with a good and insightful girl's face, and the look pointing to the future on December 29, 1931, when she first appeared on the scene with the Great ballet Waltz "The sleeping beauty of the forest."
She dances in the memory, translucent, made song, verse, painting ... How many muses owe her sleeplessness? Lezama, Fina García Marruz, Portocarrero, Fayad Jamís, and so many others that she inspired with her flight, because her feet not only touched continents, but heaven and soul.
Is she gone? I am aware of the redundancy. Didn't her body cross the threshold of eternity with her universal and atypical language? In the stained glass of time, the stamp of that novel student of the Ballet School of the Pro-Musical Art Society of Havana will always be engraved, and she grew up to become the woman who completed her stage training in New York, and then conquer hearts all over the world.
Not only the protagonist of the famous romantic ballet Giselle will miss her, so will Carmen, Kitri, the Yocasta of Oedipus king, and many other characters that she interpreted with unforgettable technique and virtuosity. How much aesthetic quality and emotion emanated from their movements? The answer may only be understood by those in the field. I am not a specialist in the subject; I only know that her Cuba, her beloved country, will always remember her with tenderness and thanks.
Our eternal Prima Ballerina left the earth and ascended, dancing in spirit as she did so many times in her performances. I can only clarify that she is not gone. She is waving, like " the light that moves" (words of Dulce Maria Loynaz), She is eternalized (Didn't she do it already in every act?). Her silhouette will continue to dance for the present and future generations that stick to the mystery that she was and is. The miracle endures.
