The theater Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso increases today its artistic values with a statue of this famous Cuban ballet dancer, built by sculptors José Villa Soberón and Gabriel Cisneros.

Havana, Cuba.- Alonso's countless admirers will be able to appreciate this great bronze statue that will be unveiled inside the theater, which in 2016 was also named after Alonso, Cuban prima ballerina assoluta awarded the highest decorations in the country.

Alonso told the Prensa Latina news agency a few months ago during a visit to the sculpture workshop at the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in which Villa Soberon and Cisneros were starting the work, that she felt very happy because the sculpture was an eternal recognition of her art.

At that time, Villa Soberón, who also made John Lennon and Ernest Hemingway's statues in Havana, said that the sculpture was a bit challenging because it would be supported on one leg.

After unveiling the statue, the National Ballet of Cuba will celebrate the 59th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in the same theater with the ballet 'Don Quixote', one of the main world classics.
