Establishment of the Las Tunas Municipal Assembly of the People's Power

The Municipal Assemblies of the People’s Power were constituted in the eight demarcations at that level in the eastern province of Las Tunas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Assembly of the provincial capital was constituted at the University of Medical Sciences (UCM), in a solemn ceremony, in which the delegates of the 152 Las Tunas constituencies signed the oath of loyalty and responsibility in their performance by mandate from the population.

In this way, they ratified their willingness to faithfully and ethically comply with the revolutionary principles and to represent with dignity the voters who elected them on November 27, in the first round, or December 4, during the second convocation.

Minardo Pavón Pérez, the president of the Municipal Electoral Council, said that for the 18th Mandate Period, the Assembly of the head municipality is made up of 96 men and 56 women, with an average age of 42 years so that experience is combined with youth.

They are political and administrative leaders, retirees, self-employed and state workers linked to production and services, peasants, a housewife, two students, and combatants from the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Ministry of the Interior (MININT).

On behalf of those elected, the delegate of Circumscription 64, Jorge Luis Álvarez Ríos, expressed the collective will to accompany the voters in all processes.

In their first meeting, the Assembly ratified Juana Yamilka Viñals Suárez as its president and elected Yudith Vaillant Ribeaux as vice president. In the responsibility of secretary, Misleydi García Osorio was appointed.

The outgoing vice president Carmen Mercedes Pérez Tamayo and the delegates who finish their task after several mandates were recognized, especially, Berando Rodríguez Ferrey, who was congratulated for his more than 35 years at the service of the people.

Karen González Velázquez, a member of the Provincial Bureau and first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in the municipality of Las Tunas, recognized those who cease to represent the people and highlighted the commitment of those elected in the defense of the Revolution.

The delegates were accompanied in their constitutive session by Manuel Pérez Gallego, a member of the Central Committee and PCC first secretary in the province; and Jaime Chiang Vega, a deputy to the National Assembly and governor.

In the remaining municipalities, Elvis Espinosa García, from "Colombia;" and Yamnis Rodríguez Vega, from Majibacoa, were ratified in their positions as presidents of their respective AMPPs. While Yolexy Pavón Vázquez (Manatí), Octavio Alonso García (Puerto Padre), Yaimí Bordón Martínez ("Jesús Menéndez"), Yordi Agüero Ricardo (Jobabo) and Maikel Padrón Acevedo ("Amancio") were the newly elected to assume the leadership of the government body.
