Las Tunas, Cuba.- In a few days - on April 3rd - they hope to complete the 58 thousand 60 tons of sugar settled in the economic technical plan of the current campaign, while in the generation and delivery of electricity to the National Electric Power System (SEN), also impresses by the results achieved so far.
According to Víctor Torres González, director of the most efficient sugar mill in Las Tunas, the 135 days of operations, the industry generated 23,334 MW / h, enough to self-supply at 118 percent and sell to the National Electroenergetic System 4 thousand 638 MW / h. Such results already make this the second best energy production since its inauguration, on April 22, 1986, by Army General Raul Castro Ruz.
The merit of the management is multiplied when we know that, with this contribution to the public network, the power plant meets the demand of consumption of the entire municipality of Majibacoa for 49 days, a concept that saved Cuba hundreds of tons of oil.
Such an admirable performance had a positive impact on the business and the family economy, since the sold electricity enabled the entry of more than one million pesos, which oxygenated the wage stimulation of workers.
The energy efficiency there also made possible to supply energy to the refined wax plants -the only one of its type that works on the island- and animal feed, to the bagasse packing plant, the wine factory and the engines that pump water in that installation.
Among the causes that influence the energy balance, Victor mentioned the acceptable behavior of the milled (65 percent), the adequate preparation of the operators and the improvements introduced in the energy scheme of the center, composed of boiler houses and bagasse, the instrumentation area, four boilers and three turbo generators with a power of four megawatts each.
What has been achieved so far by the workers, technicians and specialists of the power plant and the generation and manufacturing areas of the outstanding sugar mill of Las Tunas, can be classified as a non-negligible contribution to the efforts made by the nation in the field of sources energy alternatives.
