Those who look with good eyes on the growth of Las Tunas city, like many others, and admire the harmony of the cityscapes, may ignore that these provisions do not obey the spontaneity of the inhabitants, but a set of urban regulations that ensure consistency, common sense and good taste.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Saida Labrada Téllez, Master in Territorial Planning at the Provincial Directorate of Physical Planning, shares with 26Digital the main violations that threaten the best face of Las Tunas.

The specialist says that "among the main irregularities that we continue to detect in the city are the particular stairs on the sidewalks. We find an example in Joaquín Agüero Street, on Ramón Ortuño corner. Our inspection body insists that the population cannot violate the facade line, where the boundary between what is private and what is for public use is.

"A staircase on a sidewalk constitutes an architectural barrier, as well as the walls, the door grilles that open outwards and therefore, sometimes prevent traffic. They seem minor issues, but undermine the best development of passersby.

"Another violation is constituted by some kiosks for the sale of food products, even when they are in concentrated areas. In many cases, the design and the colors of these ones constitute anachronistic objects, they break with the general design and instead of achieving a good image they have the opposite effect.

"We also draw attention to the constructions that are carried out in the tributary areas of buildings, such as extensions, cisterns and the placement of elements that do not belong to the buildings.

"Lately, we are finding some air conditioners located towards the sidewalks and below 1.80 meters, which is regulated for not becoming a barrier."

"Our city has been gaining a lot of organization in recent years. However, we still have enough to do, above all, in improving the mechanisms to raise awareness and inform the population about what is right and what constitutes a violation.

"We propose that the municipal capitals have urban regulations approved by the councils of the Administration, so that in this way the provisions are legal in nature and their compliance is mandatory.

"In Las Tunas we are in a process of perfecting them. We are preparing the documentation with the most appropriate terms to achieve greater precision when exchanging with the residents. Our goal is that this city stands out for harmony and can maintain its eclectic aspect from the hand of modernity".
