The specialist says that "when we started the experiments in 2008, there was skepticism and few people believed in the real values of the crop. Nevertheless, a handful of peasants were inserted in the experiment and showed that it surpasses corn."
Generally, its use as cereal has been associated with pig production from feedstuffs that provide high nutritional value to pigs. However, as a forage legume and source of raw materials for livestock feed, its use has not been extensive, which requires a look from the managers and specialists of the agricultural sector. Additionally, more attention should be paid now that the foundations are being laid to guarantee food for the cattle in a dry period that is coming.
Jobabo municipality exceeds 30 thousand head of cattle; more than 80 percent are affected by drought between the months of November and May. For that reason, it is necessary to increase the planting of resistant forages that do not require large volumes of rainfall.
