THE COMPLETE HISTORY
In his childhood, he began to feel love for animals and plants. Far from showing fear towards reptiles, he caressed them, played with them and practiced a kind of brotherhood to domesticate them and attract them to his fold, especially the endangered species.
"I do not do it for personal gain, although some people have encouraged me to purchase them with the purpose of preserving and multiplying animals and trees."
In captivity, he keeps two majestic snakes that, well fed, under jealous care, are already more than two meters long. But, they are not the only ones raised by him. "They were captured here in Río Potrero, on the edge of my house. Attending them is a fact that fascinates me."
In an old jagüey tree, he nested and multiplied the conga jutía (Capromys pilorides pilorides) that brought from somewhere in Manatí municipality, "I do this to help them not disappear from our mountains and to ensure that the rich Cuban fauna does not die."
In a kind of oasis formed in a bend of the homonymous river that crosses the neighborhood, Javier has developed more than a hundred bonsai from a wide range of timber trees: carob, cedar, júcaro, jagüey, guásima ..., in addition to cactus.
Several of these specimens are more than 10 years old and only register a few centimeters in size, thanks to the careful cultural attention from pruning, the change of land in favor of its roots and water irrigation.
Margarita, his mother, says that when the boy had free days from the Active Military Service , the first thing he did when he arrived at the house was to check "his little forest" and today, after leaving work, he continues doing it daily.
In the quiet space of shade and cool summer, the early bird singing of their "fighting cocks" in harmony with the trill of birds, the young and passionate man defends the Mother Nature. Besides, he also breeds pigs, poultry, fish...
He has a trotter horse in which the hope of a better future rides on, with the care of collective and individual heritage, for the benefits of humanity.
From the bridge over the river, very close to the picturesque site, the hasty passersby stop to contemplate the haggling of catfish to win the riverbank in search of food, without knowing, perhaps, that the Javier's greatest entertainment is located at about few meters from there: an enviable ecosystem that he has maintained thanks to the collective attention of his household members. Congratulations, reptile tamer!
