After the confirmation of the presence of the African giant snail in the Velázquez neighborhood of this city, the Health staff strengthens the surveillance and the early warning system to confront this mollusk, considered among the 100 most harmful invasive alien species on the planet.

In recent months, and as a result of the divulgation of preventive measures in the national media, the rumor about the presence of the giant African snail in Las Tunas began. At the beginning it was only speculation, but on the 18th of last month the first sighting of this species in the territory was confirmed.

Since the first sighting in the country, the media have emphasized the relevance of following the appropriate measures to eradicate the giant African snail of the Cuban fauna.
