Las Tunas, Cuba - It is worth noting that since September 12 when the country declared an energy emergency to optimize the few resources available, the territory has deserved some national recognitions for not allowing excess consumption of electricity.
Since then and until October 31, - the last evaluation made by the management of the Electric Company - the average daily consumption of 300 MW/h was stopped, a figure equivalent to 700 tons of economized diesel.
When evaluating the causes of the positive balance, the specialists attribute special significance to a work system that today maintains total vitality, through teleconferences with the National, Provincial and Municipal Energy Council and systematic inspections of large consumers.
This is linked to rigorous service adjustments in the state sector and a greater awareness of savings among the population, which makes it possible to keep planned demand below peak hours.
Now we have to defend the prestige gained at the level of the country, and for such an endeavor, we must have a more active participation in the battle for the optimal use of electrical energy, because with the implementation of the normal schedule, from November 3, a tense period for generating units began.
With more than 184 thousand customers monopolizing 70 percent of the total electricity distributed in the territory, the residential sector has the largest savings reserve to reach in the Balcony of Eastern Cuba.
Therefore, the actions of mass organizations, political bodies and government structures at the grassroots should contribute towards achieving greater awareness of the urgency of making more efficient and rational use of energy in households.
It is therefore vitally important to accommodate the measures according to the characteristics of the winter months, in which nights are longer and days are shorter, so the use of artificial lighting increases substantially, between 5:00 and 9:00 pm.
It is in this period, rightly identified as peak hours, that thousands of families, collectives of workers and students, service providers and health institutions must increase savings measures, by virtue of using only the indispensable equipment and lighting.
It is in this period, rightly identified as peak hours, that thousands of families, workplaces, educational centers, service providers and health institutions must increase savings measures, by virtue of using only the indispensable equipment and lighting.
In this context, the management of the National Office for the Control of Rational Use of Energy (Onure) in the province reminds residential customers some savings measures.
Move household activities (cooking, washing and ironing) out of peak hours -from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm-. Maintain low levels of lighting to watch the television, turn on the air conditioning preferably after 10:00 at night and put it in fan position if you feel cold, and group as many clothes to wash and iron, among others.
The state sector must keep on only the essential lights to work, and connect the air conditioning equipment from 8:00 to 10:00 am and from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, except those that are in technological regime. As well as, turn off all devices during peak hours, except those determined by the direction of the organization, and disconnect all equipment and lights at the end of the working day.
It is up to each of us to adopt a mature and positive attitude towards energy saving, at a time when electricity demand reaches its maximum values.
The saving of all kinds of material resources, especially fuel, which is quoted at a high price on the international market, which is important in the generation of electricity in Cuba, becomes a very important source of income to finance programs of such social significance as housing construction.
