Sexual initiation in Las Tunas is getting younger every day, as experts have confirmed; and some have also confessed, in certain spaces, that this reality is among the causes that later provoke erectile disorders and related dilemmas.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Because self-exploration, they say, being physically and mentally ready for intimacy is an indispensable condition for sexual satisfaction on the road of life.

However, perhaps because of the saying that "no one is fooled by someone else's head", the subject is still on the rise and, as the years go by, stories related to "the first time" are not always remembered with joy.

Some blushed when we 26-year-olds assaulted them in the street with a question on the subject; others paused to think because "I don't even remember that one" and, most, grimaced between surprise and horror to regale us with diverse anecdotes, even too exciting to be shared.

An extroverted 60-something told us that her "first time" was in the middle of a banana plantation in Bejuco, and the enthusiasm made her tattoo the name of her beloved with a mottled spurge plant.

She assured that the doctors took care of removing it after the terrible infection she caught in her arm and, from her heart, a mulatto dancer who is to this day her husband and the proud father of her two children, took it out of her heart.

Others assured us that they were not fully aware of what they were doing. A girl confessed that "the event" ended in total disappointment and was organized exclusively by her closest friends. We even found a sober man, one of those hardened by a thousand battles, who blushed when he said that it was his uncle who led him on those trots on a rainy afternoon, close to home, with a girl of dubious reputation and little time for romance.

The truth is that no one seems to be quite prepared for the event. And that, which is part of the logic of life, strengthens in this reporter the idea of how valid sex education is from an early age to avoid that enthusiasm and total ignorance conspire to ruin "the moment" or change, in many cases, the course of entire lives.

Las Tunas is the province in the country with the highest rate of teenage pregnancies and the number of those who underwent abortions the previous year is equally high, as well as those who were taken to intensive care due to hemorrhages or preeclampsia.

In times of Wifi and unbridled ardors, it is prudent to sit down and reflect on these truths that also haunt us, even if they are not as romantic as a date with candles and flowers. Let's dream of love, yes, but with our feet on the ground.
