From the recognition of the founders, the gratitude, and the commitment to continue contributing to the health of the communities, a commemorative event for the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, the strength of Primary Health Care, was held in Las Tunas.
Las Tunas, Cuba.- The health personnel, who are pioneers of action in the neighborhoods, were honored. Besides, the most outstanding careers were distinguished, and those who -in their white coats- protect with talent and determination what is most precious: human health.
The performance of the Program, which reached its fourth decade, was recognized by the highest authorities, highlighting that in the recently ended year, the stability of the management structures in the 14 health areas was achieved, for the development of planning and control processes in Primary Health Care.
Norkis Sánchez Alonso, director of Medical Assistance, Medicines, and Health Technologies, stated that, in 2023, the initiative to train dedicated Comprehensive General Physicians was put into practice, through a process of recruitment and preparation by the University of Medical Sciences, before the movement of obstetricians, pediatricians and clinicians in the 35 Basic Working Groups.
During the celebration, the decrease in the rate of patients treated in medical emergencies at hospitals was also praised, which was possible because 100 percent coverage of family doctors' offices was achieved in the previous calendar.
The graduates in Intensive Care were also meritorious with the incorporation of all the third-year residents of MGI and a large group of specialists, to ensure the best emergency care in the polyclinics.
In 2023, a significant number of doctors reached the second degree of the specialty, new assistant professors and researchers were endorsed, and doctoral training continued from the MGI residency, with recent graduates of the Mario Muñoz Monroy Movement, or graduates with scientific merit.
With satisfaction, thanks to intersectorality, the first steps are being taken in reducing pregnancy in adolescence, a phenomenon that is faced by the doctor's office, through the dispensarization of adolescents in comprehensive consultations in which they are evaluated by psychologists, pediatricians, and the required specialties to prepare them for responsible sexuality.
Faced with a new anniversary, the program that emerged to protect the well-being of the communities is committed to strengthening and perfecting their routines, maintaining good health status, prioritizing the dispensarization and monitoring of people with chronic diseases, and guaranteeing the assistance of quality to older adults, pregnant women, and infants.
