Meeting to evaluate the development of Public Health in Manatí

Authorities from Las Tunas and Manatí, headed by the first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province, Manuel Pérez Gallego, held a meeting at the Gregorio Careaga Medina polytechnic with the participation of health officials, presidents of popular councils, and directors of organizations.

Manatí, Las Tunas.- The objective was to evaluate the development of Public Health in the northern municipality, attending to indicators such as the state of medical offices, the role of doctors, the Maternal and Child Program, the confrontation with the COVID- 19 and arboviruses.

Dr. Ernesto Marrero, deputy director of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Manatí, referred to two points of the report: the problem that today represents, in the constructive order, about seven family doctor's offices, which affects the permanence of physicians in the communities where they are assigned; and pregnancy in adolescence, with about 20 pregnant women included in this age group, out of a total of 135.

The functioning of organizations such as Education in preventive work to address the issue of unwanted pregnancy at risk ages, the strategy of incorporating these pregnant women into community markets or workers' dining rooms to reinforce their diet, and greater monitoring by the basic team in the care of these patients constituted other ideas addressed.

The provincial director of Health, Dr. Viviana Gutiérrez, specified that it is necessary to solve the construction problems of the clinics from the survey that exists in these sector facilities. She referred to the stability of the territory with arboviruses compared to previous dengue events on this same date. About the COVID-19, she added that Manatí must continue working with the Virtual Inquirer, and on the precision of the measurements related to those who work in Las Tunas and must systematically move from Manatí.

“You have to think about intersectoral work when carrying out this fight against the pandemic. And that doing must count, in each task, with the support of the presidents of the popular councils. We cannot trust ourselves with the achievements of our Medicine, and I am referring to the vaccine candidates who are already in the final phase, but we must have a greater perception of risk in the face of COVID-19 because discipline continues to be the best vaccine," concluded Pérez Gallego.

He also pointed out that the role of the family doctor should be deepened in each of the community settings. She called, above all, to work in terms of health, with greater professionalism and collaboration of all factors.
