Finally, the big day arrived. It is the day in which Las Tunas hosts the central activities of the country for April 4. A celebration, smeared by the distance imposed by a pandemic, which is far from being just another.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Cuba reinvents itself from its children and that is known, especially by those who celebrate the 60th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM) and the 59th anniversary of the Young Communists League (UJC).

There are many ways to give hugs. And one of them will be at 4:00 pm, at the right time that the National Act begins at the Plaza Martiana. There, a reduced representation of the new generations will have the joy in the look that the winners wear. They have shown it on these dates in a special way.

For this reason, yesterday they woke up earlier to pay tribute to José Martí, they carried out volunteer work in organoponic farms and other sites directly related to food production; they went to hospital wards, to the home for children without family protection, and other places accompanied by clowns, toys and much joy; because at each bend, the push with which they announce that they are the present of the Homeland is discovered.

Also, several young people received the card of new members of the UJC and the Jóvenes por la Vida Distinction (Youth for Life), in their own job position.

Yesterday, they filled the Buena Vista neighborhood with flags in an activity that involved several generations; and they woke up today, smiling, retracing the slits of a sugar mill, and amid the ardors of a productive pole, making history.

Yes, this is not just any anniversary: it takes place in the times of COVID-19, near the Eighth Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC),  and in the middle of a fierce media campaign against Cuba. They know it; perhaps that is why they walk like this, with renewed vigor, shouting joy from the rooftops with dedication and commitment.
