 Antonio Maceo and Che Guevara

Many men, like Antonio Maceo and Ernesto Guevara, today retrace this nation from one end to the other; I think about that as the 93rd anniversary of the Argentine's birth and the 176th of “the Bronze Titan,” who had as much strength in mind as in arm, approaches.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- They are other faces, another time, but the same passion for Cuba and its freedom. In the past, it was of arms, mountains, and manhood; now, are days of vaccination, food production, and combat in virtual scenarios against enemies that, not infrequently, hide their faces and weave lies. But this is the intense fiber of the same country.

That is why, in the middle of June 2021, we remember them, with a facemask, a lot of chlorine in our hands, and a physical distance that sometimes hurts. Perhaps some Ernesto will wake up in the red zone, being useful; or perhaps someone, a mulatto like Antonio, is part of the investigations, belongs to one of the scientific teams that formulate vaccines, or is out there, anywhere in the world, bringing health and hope on behalf of this untamed Island.

It is a time of definitions and scarcity; but despite everything and every one, against the current, seeking the light of whatever is possible, like them: here we are.
