The El Esfuerzo farm of the Santana-Hernández family, located in Laguna Blanca, in the municipality of Jesús Menéndez, will be the first dedicated to raising dark-coated pigs, as one of the alternatives in our country to achieve pork meat production under the current conditions.
"Jesús Menéndez", Las Tunas.- In a project in which the Swine base business unit in the territory and the Municipal University Center combine efforts, training and technology transfer actions are carried out, together with the securing of part of the animal feed in its six variants according to the conditions of the producers, which is expected to be about ten in this first stage.
In “El Esfuerzo” there are already 30 specimens, including 10 female breeders that will allow, with genetic improvement through the paternal breed Duró, to obtain specimens with an average weight of more than 60 kilograms within six months, for the sale in the local agricultural market.
Given the limitations of feed delivery and the necessity of meat import substitution, initiatives like these are born. The promotion of dark-coated pig breeding grounds has in its favor the resistance of this species to climatic conditions, the adaptability to alternative foods and tenure conditions.
