The presidential candidate for the Peru Libre organization, Pedro Castillo, won in the elections against the ultra-right-wing Keiko Fujimori after the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) counted 100 percent of the polling stations.

Lima.- After the finalization of the tallying process, Castillo leads the results with 50.12 percent, which represents 8,835,579 votes; while Fujimori is left with 49.87 percent, equivalent to 8,791,521 votes.

The ultra-right candidate and daughter of former dictator Alberto Fujimori, a few days before the authorities finished counting the tallies on June 10, requested the annulment of 802 polling stations for alleged fraud, which for the moment she never argued.

Given Fujimori's constant accusations against the electoral system for his defeat, candidate Castillo asked the National Jury of Elections (JNE) to make the Peruvian people respect the will of the Peruvian people.

"They keep calling for an election to be overthrown (...) We are patients waiting for a result," said Perú Libre candidate, Pedro Castillo. Castillo urged his political opponents to accept the results of the elections and not to submerge the country in a sea of uncertainty, "democracy has rules and deadlines that we all must respect."

With a turnout of 18,856,616 citizens, the rural area was decisive for Castillo's victory over Fujimori. (RHC)
