UNESCO Acknowledges Cuba’s Commitment to Education

Havana.- Qiang Tang, Deputy Director General of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), highlighted on Monday Cuba's commitment to education in Latin America and the Caribbean, at the opening of the 10 th International Congress University 2016 .

 

In the presence of Miguel Diaz-Canel, member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) and First Vice-president of the Councils of State and Ministers, the top UNESCO official referred to the relevance of the meeting to promote research and cooperation between educational institutions.

He said that currently five million people are studying in different countries and that therefore it is necessary to carry out actions so their degrees can be recognized as equivalent in any nation.

Also, in the presence of Olga Lidia Tapia, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the PCC, Ena Elsa Velázquez, Minister of Education, and more than 150 national and foreign rectors, Qiang Tang stressed that UNESCO will always support Cuba's works for sustainable human development, slogan of the 10 th Congress.
