Cuban Minister of Education Dialogues with Professors from Las Tunas Pedagogical School

Las Tunas, Cuba.- "The training of teachers is an integrative process, which should prioritize the students' motivation towards the career; as well as the quality of the classes, the exemplarity of the teachers, the linking of the student with the school, the follow-up to graduates and other elements, "said Dr. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, Minister of Education, in an exchange held with the teaching faculty of the Rita Longa pedagogical school, of this city.

Those present debated on the effectiveness of the work developed from the analysis of the results of the educational process. The vocational training and guidance, the quality of classes, working with teachers in training, the use of new technologies and the cultivation of values were among the topics on the agenda.
The minister also emphasized in the importance of giving the best use to the new information and knowledge technologies. There are some audio-visual materials available to motivate the students and then improve their learning process.
"It is important not only to ensure a good instruction, but also the integral formation of the personality of the future teachers, so that they do so later in their classes ", said Yuniel Labrada, professor of Didactics, during the debate. Deisy Zayas Rodríguez, coordinator of the Association of Cuban Educators, said: "In terms of vocational training, we work with students from Secondary School; we promote their participation in pedagogical interest circles and carry out dissimilar events like the Monitors Day and the Golden Chalk.
Ena Elsa acknowledged the efficiency achieved by the institution and called for strengthening work in the qualitative order. The Minister also made a tour of the school, in which she learned about the functioning of a historical-pedagogical room, with various exhibitions by students and teachers under the direction of the Association of Pedagogues, as well as the day-care center, for children of workers and teachers in training.
The "Rita Longa" has an enrollment of 1,271 students and 198 teachers. Some 1,089 new teachers have graduated from the three promotions of this school and and the Rigoberto Batista, in the municipality of Puerto Padre. The meritorious work of these centers has allowed to a great extent guarantee the teaching coverage in the province.
