Health workers, among other sectors, have guaranteed transportation

Although the physical distancing measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus forced the paralysis of the usual routes of public and private transport in this province of eastern Cuba, the transfer of people linked to essential sectors is still maintained here, in order to maintain the vitality of the country.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The Company for the Transport of Passengers and General Cargo (Cardinal), in coordination with the Health authorities, has guaranteed the transfer of those who are very necessary right now in hospital institutions, polyclinics and doctor's offices in the province. Other people equally valuable at this time are also included, such as those who work in logistics assurances to Health, the Cimex store chain, the Geysel Generator Set Company and the Local Industries Company (Vascal), as well as fighters of the National Revolutionary Police. It is done without neglecting the requirements of the distance between passengers and the adequate sanitation of the vehicles at the end of each day.

This strategy covers the entire province. Thus, for example, in the municipality of Manatí, the Cardinal Base Business Unit there assumed the transportation of pregnant women from different locations in that territory to the consultation at the Provincial Genetics Center. It is additionally in charge of transferring food and chlorine to the different population settlements. Meanwhile, in Puerto Padre, 10 buses move health workers to hospitals and polyclinics.

In Jobabo, reported the local press, they have had the initiative of placing a group of pedicabs for the transfer of sick people, the elderly and other cases, at the request of family members, in permanent coordination with constituencies management posts and in accordance with a certification by health personnel.

Restrictive transportation measures include self-employed; however, in that municipality, they were summoned to voluntarily maintain a guard service at the local hospital, while coachmen were offered to continue their work in the collection of solid waste or merchandise in the urban area, or in any other task that requires animal traction.
