The Manifesto de Montecristi Agricultural Polytechnic Institute, in Jobabo, was chosen along with another 28 of all the provinces, to be inserted in an agreement with an international financing of about four million euros, which pursues the improvement of Technical and Professional Education in Cuba.

 

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The agreement was signed on June 21st in Havana by representatives of the Ministries of Education (Mined) and Foreign Trade (Mincex), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The initiative will be implemented in 29 polytechnic schools, located in 24 municipalities.

During the signing of the agreement, it was highlighted that the Program of Strengthening of the Technical and Professional Education in Cuba (Profet) will prioritize the specialties of Construction, Agriculture and Services, the latter focused on the development of tourism. Alexánder Manso, national director of that teaching told the Cuban News Agency that Profet is part of the work to improve the training model in line with the economic reality of the country.

"As part of it, he specified, the training of teachers will be developed, the polytechnics will be renewed in terms of technology, inputs and availability of material study base and the management systems will be improved. It is designed for four years of work and the financing is secured by SDC."

The project has four stages; in the first one the national and local decision makers and teachers involved will be prepared. In the same way, alliances will be created with the productive sector and local governments. Besides, the answers to young people's access to vocational training will be increased and the technological availability will be strengthened.

   with pumpkin, sweet potato, cassava, banana and two hectares of
   sugar cane and king grass for animal feed.
As part of the second and third stages, preparatory actions will be carried out for agents and related agencies. The equipment will be updated in areas and in technical teaching laboratories. Progress will be made in the preparation for the employment of students and workers. The quality of learning will be enhanced and it is expected an improvement in the working relationships with the companies and polytechnics and local governments.

Finally, in the fourth year, the results must be consolidated and the experiences and best practices multiplied, completed the acquisition of equipment and continuing preparation of the professors and personnel of the industry. A strategy for the continuity of the project will also be established in the next stage of collaboration; and the approved policies in the field of professional training will be fulfilled.

Giorvys Taquechel, national director of Higher Secondary Education at Mined, stressed that it includes actions aimed at raising the quality of graduates and gives employers a better perspective. He assured that cooperative work and professionalism will be key elements in the fulfillment of the development objectives.

The "Manifiesto de Montecristi" is selected for being a school that stands out in the geography of Las Tunas, with merits in the training of technicians and skilled workers in specialties such as Veterinary Zootechnics, Agronomy, Textile Apparel, Accounting, Food Processing, Civil Construction, Electrical Installations and Carpentry, among others. It was recently congratulated with the José Marti Collective Award and received the Third Crown of Excellence granted by the Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture Movement.

This polytechnic is the only one in the country that hoards a polygon of soil, with 12 measures for the management, conservation and use of it, abilities that their students must know how to apply, as well as the rotation, the intercalation of the crops and the control of pests and diseases. In the programs of Veterinary and Agronomy, they study the live fencings, which provide shade to the animals and constitute a source of food for them. There, gumbo-limbo, piñon Cubano and moringa nurseries are fomented to replace marabou.

They have five workshops and 38 adjoining classrooms so that students can develop practical activities. They have 21 basic experimental areas, mainly from the agricultural sector, in which they deploy the vocational skills that they will need for their job, according to statements given to 26 Digital by Magdelaine Sosa Menencia, its director.
