Las Tunas, Cuba.- "We have the relief that we begin the school period with the basic resources and with most of the conditions, according to the situation in which the country is today," Nílser Piñeda Cruz, provincial director of Education, told 26Digital.

He said that the priorities for the course that begins today are to raise the quality of the classes, the improvement and preparation of teachers and the extension to all schools of the forms of work of the Third Improvement carried out by the sector.

The application of the new procedures include more flexible management methods, tighter curricula, better learning outcomes and greater family involvement. More interdisciplinary and integrative approach in the delivery of the subjects and recognition by teachers, students and parents of their participation in the construction of the project is also appreciated in experimental schools.

With regard to teacher coverage, Las Tunas has 98.5 percent of its staff, the rest is covered by hired staff and other approved alternatives. The main needs are in the municipality of Las Tunas, in the subjects of Mathematics, Spanish, Physics, Chemistry and Geography.

The training of the sector professionals required here is also a priority, so 691 students in about 14 specialties are prepared this year in the pedagogical schools. Simultaneously at the University of Las Tunas, about 1,500 teachers are enrolled in Course for Workers and more than 500 enter the Daytime Study.

All centers start the school year at their facilities. Compliance with the actions designed in the risk reduction plans, related to the prevention, control and eradication of the African Giant Snail, is prioritized based on a program articulated with agriculture. In the research conducted in the areas of educational institutions, the presence of this mollusk has not been detected.
