From October 22 to 25, the Strategic Exercise for the strengthening of preventive and control measures is being carried out in the educational institutions of this province, with the purpose of avoiding the use of drugs, psychotropics and the effect of similar substances.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to the advisors of the Provincial Directorate of Education, the exercise evaluates how the different levels of education have been prepared, the treatment of the subject by curricular and extracurricular means, what contents are addressed; training of managers, teachers and families, which deficiencies are perceived in these processes; and multifactor work, with the aim of linking school-family-community, with the diagnosis of risk factors.

It is focused on Secondary, Pre-university, Technical and Professional Education, Adult Education and the Pedagogical School because these levels are considered the most affected by the ages of their students. In these facilities, workshops, conversations and open classrooms are being held with the participation of specialists, parents and members of political and mass organizations, as indispensable actors in the prevention of this scourge that affects millions of people in the world.

The experience, implemented for three years, responds to the Educational Program aimed at preventing drug use of the National Education System from 2016 to 2020. The control of the family over the child is a subject to which special attention is devoted. The places and friends that are frequented by the youngest and the activities they practice in leisure time are issues that should not be alien to those responsible for the home.

In accordance with the strategy of the Ministry of Education, students must be involved in the rejection of the consumption of any type of drugs through the classes and illustrate the physical, psychological and social damages they cause. By preparing them through this curriculum, they can multiply and influence families and communities.

The National Strategic Drug Exercise takes place in three regions of Cuba as part of the "zero tolerance" policy against this scourge. Cuba maintains a permanent strategy to prevent and confront drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Cuba seized last year two thousand 438 kilograms of psychotropic substances, most of them marijuana, from international drug trafficking operations that did not have the island as their destination, according to official data.
