Havana, Cuba.- Cuban academicians will debate in this capital on education for the elderly in the context of an event that will be held in this capital until May 26th.

The 6th EduMayores 2017 Workshop is expected to be a fruitful academic meeting among the senior citizens department of all higher education centers of the Caribbean island.

Teresa Orosa, president of the Senior Adult department at the University of Havana (UH), told Granma newspaper that the world, in which stigmas persist to prevent people from living fully that stage of life, is not still ready for aging.

Education is a major factor for the achievement of active aging, while promoting inclusion and development spaces conducive to genuine citizen participation, Orosa added.

Among the issues of the event, scheduled until May 26th, are the improvement processes in curricular designs, the theoretical estimates of Educational Gerontology and research on the impacts of education directed to older citizens.

The role of the senior adult department as an expression of the university extension and actions in the community and experiences of training in these technologies are also on the list.

The meeting also includes in its academic program pre-workshop courses given by professors of the LARNA Network (Latin American Research Network in Old Age) of the University of Oxford, in England. (PL)
