Presiding over the meeting to take stock on the performance of the Ministry of Higher Education in 2015, the leader stressed the need for the universities to train not only skilled labor, but also professionals able to the society's demands.
We must encourage young people to join tasks of impact for the country, so they are not isolated within the walls of universities, feel the life of the people, contribute and learn, said Díaz-Canel, according to the office of the Cuban News Agency.
Speaking of the new challenges, he mentioned the training of professionals committed with the Cuban revolutionary process, with high humanist conviction, and a staff of excellence working to perfect socialism, he said.
The Cuban Revolution must continue existing, because it constitutes a hope for the world, and is the safest option for our people, for a better world, and the responsible and committed contribution of the higher education is very necessary for this purpose, he added.
Meanwhile, in the report submitted to the rectors, the Minister of Higher Education, Rodolfo Alarcon, stated that the previous year was an intense period, in which continuity was given to the transformations started in 2014 with the purpose of increasing the quality of education in the universities.
Despite the progress, he pointed out deficiencies, such as student dissatisfaction with the quality of the politics lessons, and difficulties in their insertion into the labor practices.
He also announced that the major in Agroindustrial Processes Engineering will begin in September 2016, via distance education. (PL)
