Papers on culture to face imperial domination strategies, and education and critical awareness, the latter by Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, are also scheduled during this third day of the event.

A tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2016), was paid on Tuesday, in which the priority he gave to education and the strategies established to promote the academic training of Cubans were addressed.

More than 600 delegates from 42 countries are attending the Congress, which will be held until Friday at the Conference Center in Havana.

The event includes symposia, panels, and the presentation of more than 1,500 works by professors and researchers, mainly from Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, China, France, Spain, Italy and the United States.

According to the organizers, the event allows to socialize scientific results and good practices of the work of thousands of education professionals who contribute to their work to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.

The historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and his work in education as an accurate guide of these times was remembered Tuesday in Havana on the first day of debates at the International Congress Pedagogy 2019.

The President of the Association of Pedagogues of Cuba, Ph.D. Lesbia Gertrudis Cánovas, recalled the tasks carried out by Fidel Castro in the early days of the revolutionary triumph, among them the Integral Reform of Education and the transformation of 69 barracks in schools for more than 40,000 students.

She also highlighted the volunteer teachers training supported by the peasants at the beginning of the Literacy Campaign, in January 1961, with the slogan encouraged by Fidel: "we do not tell the people: believe, we tell them: read."

Cánovas said at the event opened Monday that the leader's thought was responding to the passion for pedagogy, political improvement and the legacy of Jose Marti, as an eternal educator.

"Fidel's conception of education led him to mobilize the people, convinced that with the participation of everyone a better society could be built," she said. The national and international extension reached by the experience of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution in popular education reaffirms that achievements in this field were evident thanks to his strategic approach: "The impossible is possible."

The Congress Pedagogy2019, which is held until Friday at the Havana Conference Center, aims to continue promoting the integration of Latin America, exchanging experiences and joining forces to fight for a better world. (PL)
