Las Tunas.- More than 52,900 people from different age groups will be immunized during the current Anti-Flu Vaccination Campaign this month, with the aim of preventing serious episodes of acute respiratory infections (ARI).

In this first stage, it will apply to pregnant women, people over 85 years, people with chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes, between the ages of 18 to 24; patients with chronic renal failure, fibrocystic, psychiatric and risk workers, particularly poultry and pig farms.
The preventive measure is developed in the medical and vaccination offices of the Health areas. For a second phase, they plan to protect more than 33,200 children, including breastfeeding mothers and children aged 6 to 9 years.
Dr. Aldo Cortés González, deputy director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, explained to 26Digital that viruses mutate and the vaccine contributes to raise the titres of antibodies and identifies part of the information that they possess.
The doctor refers that "Each year the Anti-flu vaccine is supplied to maintain immunological memory against the so-called serious episodes of acute respiratory infections after knowing the characteristics of circulation in the previous stage."
It is known that some people avoid getting immunized with the Anti-flu vaccine because of colds. The specialist says that the infection may appear, but with a lower intensity than in those people who do not receive the immunogen.
The population must also take extreme measures, especially in this summer period, in which travel and environmental characteristics increase the probability of transmission of such condition. It is important to wash  hands several times a day and avoid conglomerations, as well as handshakes and kisses. Those who are ill must also cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing and go to health centers.
