Las Tunas.- The movement of voluntary blood donors of this eastern province has made a major contribution to the country's fulfillment of its commitments in regard to this humanitarian gesture for 50 consecutive months.
More than 54,000 blood donations have been made in the last three years in the territory, aAccording to data provided by the Blood Bank of Las Tunas.
This figure means that the province has consistently honored its commitments for more than 40 months, thanks to the joint work of the National Blood Program of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) and the support of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), a mass organization that sponsor the making of donations without requiring monetary remuneration in return.
Luis Enrique Pérez Ulloa, head of the Minsap's National Blood Program, stressed that Cuba is one of the countries that guarantees the needs of this vital liquid to support the carrying out of more than one million surgical interventions annually.
Pérez Ulloa also stressed that among the main strengths of the program is the fact that all donations are voluntary and more than 50 percent of these come from people who continues donating.
