Las Tunas, Cuba.- Guiuzel Cutiño Pavón, head of the Department of Medical Care, said that "this is the result of a sustained and comprehensive work for some years, in which a greater interrelationship between primary and secondary health care levels has been achieved."
Cutiño Pavón pointed out that the municipality of Jobabo stands out for the integral work of the Maternal and Child Program (PAMI), the province maintains at zero the maternal mortality rate and a record of more than 5,300 births.
The family planning, the completion of medical staff that ensures a dynamic and continuous care, the work of the family doctor, and the comprehensive work in the neonatology wards, with a high survival rate, as well at the Intensive Care Unit of the pediatric hospital - where 98 percent of the children admitted are saved- has been essential for this achievement.
Actions are currently directed to avoid pregnancy in adolescence and low birth weight index; to minimize these indicators and obtain better care and protection for pregnant women, puerperal women and children.
Las Tunas registered in 2017 an infant mortality rate of 4.2 deaths per thousand live birth. A rate below 3.8 is expected at the end of this year, and keeping maternal mortality at zero.
