Diagnostic studies in Medicine require equipment and reagents. Cuba overcomes obstacles to provide quality medical services in healthcare centers despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade, which makes it almost impossible to purchase supplies.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dr. Rogelio Pérez Rivero, Deputy Director of Diagnostic Media at Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna General Teaching Hospital, in Las Tunas, points out that the purchase of equipment such as x-rays, for example, is mediated by third countries.

"When we have bought some equipment and they are working very well, with their spare parts, suddenly, these companies pass to American interests because of the aforementioned blockade; thus we can no longer obtain replacement parts. There is equipment that we have in the country that is really disabled for this cause," the specialist says.

Impact of U.S. blockadeWith the reagents necessary to carry out different tests or other studies on patients, the situation is usually no different.

"We have to buy the reagents from third countries and blockade causes that some producing companies have some fear or suspicion of selling them directly to Cuba, which in the end directly harms patient care," he added.

Health strategies in the main care facility of the province prioritize the most important, human health.

"It is good to point out that, regardless of all these problems we have due to the blockade, measures are taken in the provinces to alleviate the difficult situation we are going through. Many resources or other methodologies and procedures are sought so as not to leave the patient without the required diagnosis. We are making a lot of use of the clinical method. Doctors know that nothing replaces the clinic.

"In addition, we reorganize our work and put flexible schedules, so that we can give the assistance that the patient deserves and needs, even when we have little equipment and resources to do so," said the doctor.
Given the difficulties, human sensitivity is imposed in terms of medical care. That must be the axiom.
