Las Tunas, Cuba.- Dr. Juan Núñez Chacón, director of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (CPHEM), explained to 26Digital that generally during this month, the infestation rates of the vector increase, due to climatic conditions and the existence of environmental risks. Given this situation at the country level, they deploy measures and continue with the fumigation in the main seat of the province and in Majibacoa municipality. Besides, some areas of Jobabo and Puerto Padre are being incorporated.
The doctor informed that after the work of intra and extra-adult fumigation of the first stage, in the territory, they report an improvement of the epidemiological situation with a tendency to decrease in patients with dengue. However, the foci is high and the virus still circulates among the inhabitants.
"We have local transmission in all municipalities with greater or lesser intensity and today there are environmental conditions for the proliferation of the vector; that is why we urge to reinforce the surveillance in homes, because in these the largest number of foci is located."
"The main concerns - he adds - are concentrated in Jobabo, where they report the highest reactivity in the province, and in the Health area of the Romárico Oro polyclinic (Puerto Padre), although in recent days the cases have decreased. This is added to the situation of the main municipality and the five conglomerates of Majibacoa."
Extra-residential treatment helps eliminate adult mosquitoes that fly outside the house after fumigation inside the property. These days, the high productivity team performs that action in different streets of the town.
During this second stage, health workers and specialized campaign personnel have the mission of achieving effectiveness in the intensive strategy, the detection of patients with febrile syndromes and focal control.
He points out that "the repetition of blocks with foci of Aedes from one cycle to another, is the evidence that shows deficiencies in the work due to the ineffective elimination of risks. Therefore, the most important thing is to develop an inspection with the required quality to obtain results."
The director of the CPHEM reiterated the need to go to the health centers before the appearance of dengue symptoms, in order to avoid the complications of the disease and its local spread.
He concludes saying that "in this new stage, we call the residents to add wills to reduce the indexes of the vector and to close the transmission of the disease in this province."
