The restoration of the services of sterilization and the intensive care unit at the Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna general teaching hospital, in this eastern city, reaches its last construction stage, which is expected to be finished by the end of this month, as part of the investment process underway in this health facility.

Eduardo Vázquez, constructorLas Tunas, Cuba.- According to Eduardo Vázquez, head of the execution brigade in the area of sterilization, the late entry of some resources caused delays in completion. "We changed the false ceiling and the cladding; we only have to finish the countertops and part of the walls of the central room. It was not necessary to replace the floor because it is well preserved."
Carpenters, masons and plumbers integrate a team that works together to achieve quality in construction. Thus some of the workers told 26Digital.
"Working at health care institutions has been a great experience so far we have veneered about 370 square meters of walls. Here the heat is unbearable, but we strive to ensure a good result," said Reynier Guerrero.
Yoeni Tamayo agrees with his colleague. "We have done everything in detail with an appropriate technique, already lack a little to finish the room, which is essential in the operation of the hospital. I hope them take advantage of the new conditions to provide better assistance."
Lainies Soto García, technician of work, confirms the quality of the materials and the constructive actions. "It is planned to air-conditioning this space that already has modern autoclave equipments to sterilize the instrumental," she said.

Self-employed construction worker.Self-employed workers have the mission of returning vitality to an essential service in the hospital institution after 37 years of its inauguration.
"Our group is composed of 10 workers, including plumbers, carpenters and electricians. Initially, it was intended to carry out maintenance work, but then the budget for this investment was allocated," said Orlando Osorio Reyes.
"We have made the veneer and the woodwork was replaced by chrome-plated aluminium which is more functional and long-lasting. The most difficult has been the false ceiling because the placement of the plasterboard requires greater rigor. Plumbing has also taken great effort by the existence of many filtrations and leaks. "

While the pay is decent, something else inspires them to put their heart. "We are like a family that strives to do our best. Worth it any sacrifice for this human work that favors the people," says Luis Santana excited.
José Martínez, another self-employed, said without stopping his work: "the State has invested a lot in this restoration. Our responsibility is to build it with quality, but it is up to everyone care for it."
