Las Tunas Health System Bets on Traditional Medicine

A Scientific Workshop of Natural and Traditional Medicine was held recently in the eastern Cuban province of Las Tunas.

Professionals from this province discussed 22 research papers related to some healing techniques from the biggest Asiatic country. Lectures regarded to the therapy of cupping and massages by face reflexology were listened by the researchers. They also appreciated therapeutic exercises as well as the expo-sale of ornamental plants and drugs derived from honey. These activities were auspicated by the Cuba-China Friendship Group and the Cuban Society of Natural and Bioenergetics Medicine.
Alejandro Bernardo Cervantes Palomino, regional president of the Cuban Society of Natural and Bioenergetics Medicine, highlighted the implementation of traditional procedures in the Health System in Las Tunas. ´´Not only specialists use these procedures but surgeons, orthopedists, anesthesiologists and pediatricians, as well," he added.
Libia Lezcano Faura, head of the Natural and Traditional Medicine Program at the Provincial Department of Health said ´´We are looking for developing studies of effectiveness and efficiency to raise the scientific nature of this specialty of Medicine. Thus, the patients will receive an integral treatment´´.
Lezcano Faura informed that Las Tunas has the infrastructure required to deepen on this Chinese therapy by means of the corresponding ministerial resolution of the Ministry of Public Health at all levels of medical treatment. It has an advance focused on the increase of professionals on this specialty.
´´Once we are able to achieve what it is planned, the Natural and Traditional Medicine will gain spaces in the medical community through basic courses, training, mastership and specialization courses," she concluded.
