Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to Dr. Yamirka Ramírez Hidalgo, specialist of First Degree in Dermatology and Coordinator of the Provincial Program of Skin Cancer, the results are very positive after its application. "Once we start the treatment, the change is noticed, because it cures the cancer and also improves the skin color, texture, actinic keratosis, cutaneous horn and other precancerous lesions."
After testing its effectiveness during the clinical trial phase, it became part of the basic medication chart in November 2016. It favored 26 patients in this province with this condition, who appreciated the scientific development achieved in that branch of Health.
"Not all injuries are treated," says the specialist, "there are inclusion criteria. The patient is evaluated by a multidisciplinary team to reach consensus on whether or not it is a tributary of the drug. We serve people from different municipalities in our office at Ernesto Guevara Hospital. "
The therapeutic alternative - applied by infiltration around the lesion and according to the days specified by the treatment scheme - favors the quality of patients, especially those whose lesion is located in complex areas, close to vital orifices such as the eyes and nose, in which the surgical procedure is difficult and can generate sequels.
Skin cancer is the one with the highest incidence in malignant neoplasms in Las Tunas, and the most frequent type is connected to basal cell tumor. According to Dr. Ramírez, this health condition has its onset after several years of exposure to the Sun, and other risk factors such as fair-skinned influence.
