Las Tunas, Cuba.- One hundred workers from all municipalities will participate in these vector control actions that also include surveillance, focal treatment, perifocal, radiobatides, environmental sanitation and health education in workplaces and neighborhoods.
The cycles of five rounds every six days will cover a universe of eight popular councils, 34 districts, 51 public doctor's offices and 560 blocks. The areas of least risk throughout the province continue with the usual cycles every 22 days.
According to Dr. Juan Núñez Chacón, director of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, the transmission of Zika is about to end; but the mosquito, also a transmitter of dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever, wanders through our communities and there is the need to decrease the infestation rate.
To achieve the success of this operation, it is not only necessary to guarantee the quality of the planned work, but also to have the support of the residents and state agencies. It is about avoiding the obstacles at the time of fumigation and keeping the locations closed for 50 minutes.
In Las Tunas there are around 300 high-risk work centers, which is why it is aimed at solving problems with the dumping of liquid waste, accumulation of solid waste and ensuring the functioning of the Autofocal Brigade.
Currently, 80 percent of the outbreaks are located in low tanks, a situation that demonstrates the indiscipline and low risk perception of many inhabitants of Las Tunas. The health authorities are calling on the population to actively join this battle in favor of health.
