The workers that fight the Aedes aegypti mosquito cannot have a rest this summer.

They have worked long hours under the embracing sunlight and wearing their common uniform. They belong to the National Campaign against the propagation of this dangerous mosquito that spreads many diseases such as zika, yellow fever, chikungunya and dengue, a terrible virus that is affecting some provinces around with an aggressive type of dengue.
According to Doctor Juan Núñez Chacón, head of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (CPHEM), the epidemiological situation shows stability in relation to the difficult context of the nation. A system of vigilance is being carried out because of the constant danger and the infection figures in the territory.
The patients that are reported with fever are admitted to the hospital to practice them some medical studies. There are three diagnosis stages of this disease; the first one is so-called ´´IgM-Suma´´ that is practiced in the CPHEM. The reactive samples are sent to the Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute, in Havana.
The specialist explains that another specific test called ´´IgM Elisa´´ is practiced in that institute to corroborate the former result. If it is reactive, the sample is confirmed with an ´´IgG´´ after 21 days of the beginning of symptoms on the patient.
´´Almost 20 samples are sent to the lab of the CPHEM each day. In the last days, the samples that are tested with ´´IgM-Suma´´ are nonreactive. It means that there is low levels of infections, which confirms that there is no dengue propagation.´´
This good news does not mean that Las Tunas inhabitants are not in risk of getting sick. The sanitary authorities have made a call to increase the personal hygiene measures and inform them in case of having fever in the first 24 hours. It is necessary to notice that after the second day, the transmission process starts running if the mosquito bites a sick person and then a healthy one.
For that reason, no body must stay at home if some symptoms arise such as fever, headache, severe pain on muscles and joints, and some red points on the skin. The process may get worse with hemorrhage through the natural body orifices, the urine, and the vagina when is not the menstruation period.
There is no report of hemorrhagic dengue so far. There are four varieties of this serious disease in the country such as DEN-1, DEN-3, and DEN-4. Den-2 is spreading in some other provinces and it is expected to be present in this territory.
´´ It produces a terrible medical condition with some complications in a short period of time. The sick person may feel fine and two or three hours later, could be in shock. That is why it is important to attend the doctor if symptoms arise.´´
There is no record of fever related to this disease in any health area so far. Nevertheless, there is a difference regarding the actions carried out in those that were affected before.
Regarding zika, the case incidence is low which allowed determining that there is no transmission of this illness since a long time ago.
Núñez Chacón expressed that the most affected municipalities are Majibacoa, Manatí, Puerto Padre and the province capital city. He advises the family, the community and the institutions to prioritize and strength the inspection measures in those areas where the mosquito may reproduce, with the intention of avoiding the propagation of this dangerous insect.
