The assortment included rice, pork meat, beans and other basic products in the diet of Las Tunas inhabitants and Cubans, and whose prices are very high at the international market, especially for Cuba, victim of the prolonged and genocidal blockade imposed by U.S.
Sales also included more than 13 million liters of fresh milk, which, as in the case of other products, exceeded the plans and volumes delivered in the same stage of 2017.
However, they failed to meet their commitments regarding the delivery of corn to reduce purchases abroad, when only commercialized 1,310 tons, 46 percent less than what was previously hired.
The producers of this territory, about 700 kilometers east of Havana, also were far below in the sale of tomatoes, a crop that like corn was affected by excessive rains, instead very favorable for most of the other plantations.
Cuba prioritizes the local production of vegetables, grains, fruits, meat, milk and other provisions, in order to replace costly imports, achieving food sovereignty and improve the quality of life of the population.
