2018-2019 School Year: Enrollment Increases at University of Las Tunas

Some 8,197 students are enrolled at the University of Las Tunas, of which 2,226 are new. All will attend college in its two main campuses and in the Municipal University Centers (CUM by its Spanish acronym).

 

Las Tunas, Cuba.- According to a report prepared by the Rectory, 2, 673 students are enrolled in the Day Course, 4,758 in the modality of the Course for Workers and 249 in Distance Education. This enrollment is much higher than that of the previous calendar, which required the preparation of necessary conditions for several months to ensure that it is a successful academic year.
The center counts a staff of 971 professors, which represent 91.4 of the total workforce, for the training in its 37 careers with. Of these, 117 are doctors of Science and 534 have a Master's degree, which helps to increase the quality of the educational process. The remaining nine percent is completed by professionals hired part-time, reinstated retirees and recent graduates in their training period.
The center of higher studies set as objectives for this new stage to improve the in order to increase academic efficiency and optimize the results of the comprehensive training of students. They aspire, in addition, to accredit the specialties of Law and Accounting and Finance, as well as the Master's program of Business Administration.
The university authorities say the indispensable resources to develop the teaching period such as the premises, the bibliography, the furniture and the material basis of life for the scholars are available. Most of the specialized laboratories have the equipment, although those of Chemistry have difficulties with the reagents, those of Labor Education with the electric motors of the machine tools and 22.9 percent of the computers of the institution are broken.
Another difficulty is the collective transport. None of the three omnibuses works because of its obsolescence. This affects the transfer of students and teachers to the classes, compliance with field practices and follow-up to the work of the municipal seats.
