The local agricultural sector projects increasing at short-term meat production from a strategy based on having two sheep and a goat for each associate or worker in each productive unit.

Jobabo, Las Tunas.- If this aspiration materializes, in two or three years the herd would be around 10,000 sheep and about 5,000 goats, which will provide an annual average of 800 tons of meat, to meet part of the demand in the markets of the municipality.
The proposal was discussed with the agricultural sector's leaders, and indications have already been given to consider the matter with farmers and usufructuaries, and with the administrative officials of the state farms.
It is precisely the state sector that most worries the specialists and officials of Agriculture in Jobabo; it is necessary to set up specialized centers for the animals' reproduction, dispersing them by different areas, to avoid overcrowding and the proliferation of diseases.
Boosting the raising of sheep and goats is one of the strategic lines to increase food production in the municipality, and in the opinion of those who run the Agriculture there is enough potential for between 30 and 40 percent of the meat that is sold in Jobabo come from goats and sheep.
What remains is to analyze objectively the issue with farmers and cooperative members, create conditions in state farms, and facilitate the acquisition of specimens of good breeds.
