COVID-19 in Las Tunas

Every new day without positive cases for COVID- is an extended respite for those who defy this enemy, not so invisible, from the front line. However, it is illusory those who take it for granted that the new coronavirus is already withdrawn.

Las Tunas, Cuba.- The provincial director of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, Diego Álvarez Dopazo, reports that in Las Tunas the incidence of 2.8 per 100,000 inhabitants shows a favorable situation, but this battle has not ended.

He assures that active inquiries, epidemiological surveillance, focus controls around positives cases, and border inspections have been decisive, but that nobody confuses the current health panorama, with a relaxation of hygiene measures or social distancing.

So far in this province, 15 people have tested positive for COVID-19, one of them, deceased. There are six patients with an epidemiological discharge who, after leaving the Fermín Valdés hospital, remained isolated at home for 14 more days. Still, three of those clinically recovered must meet the period established for the final discharge.

According to the last part, 18 persons are in isolation centers for suspects, while another 257 are in the premises enabled for contacts. In Cerro de Caisimú, there are 13 travelers who arrived on special flights from different countries.

The 104 PCR sample results were negative and almost 3,160 rapid diagnostic tests are already counted. On the other hand, 193,046 people were investigated, 54 manifested respiratory symptoms, and all were attended in primary health care.

Doctor Dopazo insists that, in this scenario, we must not let the guard down, to avoid new infections. These are crucial moments when it is urgent to maintain discipline and stay at home as a true sign of solidarity and love for our neighbors.
