Las Tunas, Cuba .- "Until the 24th, the Colombia, Majibacoa, Antonio Guiteras and Amancio Rodríguez sugar mills met their respective productive commitments to 134, 125, 94 and 42 percent, in that order, while the province did so for the 103, with a 1,690 tons of sugar above scheduled," said Julio García Pedraza, director of the Azcuba group here.
García Pedraza recognized that so far in January they have stopped extracting some four thousand tons of sugar, due to industrial breaks and difficulties in the mechanized harvest, as well as the lack of verve in the cut of cane with new technology combined cutting machines during the night.
In order to achieve the fulfillment of the production plan for the season, the effort in the center and north of the territory is crucial, especially considering that the workers of "Antonio Guiteras" and "Majibacoa" factories are responsible for producing 138,145 tons of sugar, the 80th percent of the amount planned.
The recovery shown by the "Colossus of Las Tunas" is good news; which in the last week fulfilled at 102 percent its sugar plan, enough to dethrone - for the first time during this harvest - the powerful and efficient "Majibacoa."
